Forrester predicts fleet management in transportation, security
and surveillance applications in government, inventory and warehouse management applications in
retail and industrial asset management in primary manufacturing will be the hottest areas for IoT growth.
Forrester also found enterprises are more likely than smaller companies to use IoT. 23% of global enterprise
respondents use IoT, but only about 14% of small and medium-size business (SMB) respondents do. For example,
Lufthansa Airlines is using real-time aircraft, airport, and weather sensor
data to improve on-time performance and optimize operations.

Various IoT forecasts, some of them being already exceed portend to a plethora of issues related to Reliability,
Security, Connectivity and Control. The Retail industry has alread shown signs of early adoption with RFID,
Beaconing, Presence and Activity Sensors, Shelf Displays and Labels, Loyalty tokens, audio+video players and similar
customer engagement devices.
IOT - WHAT'S NEW?
Voice Activated Product Finding with Alexa - Many shoppers in large supermarkets give up looking for 30% of things that they were planning to buy. Walking around numerous aisles or waiting for that elusive store attendant to turn up at an aisle is frustrating enough. With NFC tokens, shelf beacons and a smart App it is now possible to laser-guide the customer to the exact aisle location and shelf along with a 'promotional' offering too.
A simpler method being developed by us involves asking Alexa before you leave the house - indicating what items you may be looking for e.g. "Razor Blades, Milk and Eggs" and only at the nearest Super Target, for example. She then text beams all the item locations (Aisle, Shelf, Next To) to your smart phone and off you go. No hunting, less wandering. It's simple. A private IoT-speedway. Right?
